Our memories

One of the most difficult feelings in life can be to see our parents, friends or family members suffer with poor mental health. We desperately want to help and make things better for them. However, it is a poignant reminder of the passing of time when our loved ones experience dementia. As the carer of a loved one who doesn’t always know you, you will feel many mixed emotions. You may need some support to make sense of these emotions yourself. Your loved one and you, may find the power of Drawing and Talking helpful in unlocking some shared memories or experiences. Dementia can rob us of our ability to verbally express ourselves as well as make retrieving memories difficult. Creating drawings can give dementia patients a new avenue through which to express events or things they remember. It is a tough time - if you could do with some help to work through your emotions we can think this through together.
